Taking the Light First Friday Event

Friday September 3, 5 to 8 pm

 Meet featured artist Patricia Carlson as she debuts her fall collection of gorgeous overdyed velvet scarves.   Patricia can explain her process and you can choose from a large selection of new scarves she’s produced especially for this event.  We’ll have refreshments and a door prize drawing as well, so be sure to stop by.

 Join us First Friday as we feature the work of Connie Engelbrecht of Brecht Studio in Eagle River.  Connie designs and creates sand etched glass light catchers and tiles with images inspired by life in Alaska.   A number of custom pieces will be available for purchase during the First Friday event.

 Made In Alaska 2010Join us First Friday when we showcase our Made in Alaska selections for the season.  From great grilling spices to wood carvings of our fine feathered friends, from handcrafted jewelry by some of Alaska’s finest artists to pressed botanicals and qiveut smoke rings, we have a great selection which will appeal to locals and visitors alike.   Several local artists will join us for the evening, so  come by to meet them and see their handiwork.  We’ll offer a 10% discount on all Alaska Made items between 5 and 8 pm.

 Holm Cheese TraysFairbanks Artist, Sarah Holm is passionate about fused glass.  We carry several of her one-of-a-kind pieces including sushi trays.  Sarah’s cheesetrays are multi-colored and full of fun;  they are as functional as they are beautiful.   Accompanied by a pate knife,   the tray is ready for some nice French Brie or Cabot Vermont Private Reserve!

Pauline Lian, Guest Artist plus Betsy Balch Trunk Show Friday November 6 5-8 pm

 iceworm1109Join us for a very special First Friday as we feature two talented women.  Pauline Lian will be with us as our guest artist.  She’ll have her flower presses with her as well as limited edition and one-of-a-kind pressed botanicals.  So be sure to come by to see what’s new for fall and winter from her Iceworm Studio.

A trunk show will kick off our seasonal collection of designs by Betsy Balch.  She’s sending up a wonderful array of scarves in luxurious colors and fabrics from her studio botanical-instincts-espresso-on-willow1 in Washington specifically for this event.  Our staff will model her wearable art throughout  the evening, so don’t miss this opportunity to choose your special wrap for the winter from this show!  Refreshments will feature foods from our 2009 Specialty Food Selection, and we’ll have a door prize drawing.

Tea Tasting Friday April 3rd 5 to 8 p.m.

 ff-sterling-tea-09Join us for our second annual tea tasting.  Just in are the artisanal blends of Brenda Meyer, owner of Sterling Tea in Rockwall, Texas.  Sample hot and iced varieties in black, green, rooibos as well as herbal blends.  We will also introduce teas from Fairbanks’ own Jenny and Steven Downer of Sipping Streams Tea Company.  We’ll have a terrific assortment to sample and purchase plus complementary refreshments.  Welcome in Spring with us!

Alice Haggerty Trunk Show November 7, 5-8 p.m.

 Join us as we reintroduce Alice Haggerty’s jewelry to our ever-expanding selection of handcrafted jewelry.  We’ve carried Alice’s work in the past and she is back designing jewelry after a leave of absence.  We will showcase her new work in green serpentine and jade, green turquoise, nugget pearls with copper and dyed coin pearls.  Her new inspirations are stunning!  A resident of Homer, Alaska for 25 years (and temporarily living in Oregon), Alice works with mixed metal, ethnic silver, garnets, pearls and beads to design necklaces, earrings, bracelets and anklets.   As a special treat, we’re serving refreshments which feature items from our holiday specialty food selection.

Artist Pauline Lian September 5, 5-8 p.m.

We are honored to have Pauline Lian as our guest artist on Friday, September 5, 2008.  Pauline produces exquisite pressed botanical art at Iceworm Studio here in Fairbanks.  She chooses flowers and berries indigenous to the area and presses them while they are still fresh to give them lasting color.  The pressed botanical art is mounted on textured or handmade acid-free paper.  Pauline’s pieces are truly one-of-a-kind.  If you’ve missed Pauline at the Farmer’s Market this season, be sure you put this First Friday on your must do list. 

We’ve brought back Langford Petals Shortbread to complement Pauline’s work and will reintroduce it to the store on Friday.  We’ll be serving Pansy Up-delicious blueberries with a glorious mix of multi-color playful pansies, violas, and bachelor buttons, and CranSnaps-tart, chopped whole cranberries garnished with radiant pink and red geraniums.  Beverages include misty fjords Raven’s Brew Coffee and jade bouquet Sterling Tea.
