Summer Solstice Musings
July 03 2008 Whew! the month is gone before I can turn my head. My party was everything I had hoped for. LOTS of folks came by to wish me well and receive my gift to them–their 10% off evening. My favorite accordion trio entertained me streetside while people inside nibbled on cake and sandwishes and filled the store with frivolity. In my honor, the accordions played Martha’s Polka, and people danced on the sidewalk. I barely had time to blink and it was Summer Solstice! The Midnight Sun Festival was one of the best ever. Every year I look forward to that heady summer day when the sky never darkens, and we make sure our favorite customers receive fabulous treasures for 40% off at our traditional sidewalk sale. June also brought saying good-bye to Karl Carlson, accordionist extraordinaire and former downtown retailer. On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, I heard the strains of Karl’s Bulgari wafting up Cushman Street from the Presbyterian Church. The Carlson family had created a fabulous DVD tribute to Karl’s life which was presented at the service. His musical talents will serve as inspiration for years to come. And speaking of inspiration, take a stroll down Cushman and see what strikes your fancy at If Only…. I’ll be waiting for you.
